Reading a Map Lines- indicate roads, boundaries, human movement , rivers, etc. Symbols- capitals, battle sites, resources available and economic activities Labels- explain various items or activities on a map Compass Rose- the 4 directions of a compass ( N, E, S, W) Scale- gives a way to measure distance on a map Colors- growth of a country, elevation of a country, etc. Legend or Key- explains symbols, lines and colors Latitude and longitude- lines showing East to West and North to South

Practice By raise of hand tell me which 1 of the 5 types of maps the map is. In your notes write down 2 things that helped you know what type of map it was.
