Decorative Gluing Project Cutting Board or Intarsia Create a cutting board by gluing strips of wood together and shaping Or Create intarsia by gluing shaped pieces of wood together.

Cutting Board -Square and Rip different colored wood strips of even thickness. -Glue side by side with grain going in the same direction. -Plane to an even thickness -Create a unique exterior shape to the cutting board. -Use router to create decorative edges.

Stars are created by drilling holes and inserting a wooden dowel into the hole.

Something like this could be created with wood strips and a clockwork piece.

cutting board/intarsia Combination cutting board/intarsia

Intarsia This is a harder version of the same project. You must cut out pieces to create an overall picture with no gaps between the pieces of wood. No table saw necessary. Plane multicolored wood to a specific thickness. Cut shapes out to fit like a jigsaw puzzle with no gaps. Glue pieces together along edges. Use router and files to create a decorative finish.

Use the wood grain to enhance the look of the piece. Keep to simple shapes and designs. Create as few shapes as is necessary. Use the wood grain to enhance the look of the piece.

Placing shapes inside of an entire piece of wood increase the projects difficulty. BEWARE.

Adding a clockwork piece adds just over $10 to your total cost.

Remember – Keep it simple. This was made by a master craftsman.
