College Bound Athletes NCAA/NAIA Eligibility

Athletic Scholarship Facts 3% of high school student-athletes receive a scholarship Less than 1% receive a D1 scholarship 26% of students who enter college on an athletic scholarship as a freshmen, are no longer on scholarship entering their sophomore year 80% of scholarship/financial Aid opportunities are Not on the D1 level. National stats and LSW falls in this range. A college has to want to recruit your student. If you are interested in a college ask the coach/recruiting coordinator if you can take an official visit.

Scholarship myth There is no such thing as a 4 year “Full Ride” D1 schools have the option to guarantee more than 1 year (most do not) All athletic D2 scholarships are 1 year renewable

Athletic Scholarships Differ D1 – Men-Football, Basketball may not be divided Women-basketball, Volleyball, Gymnastics & tennis may not be divided. All other sports are divided DII/NAIA, all sports divided. Divided means that the total program scholarship amount is split between all scholarship players. The scholarship amount may be 12% to 25% of a full scholarship.

NCAA/NAIA Eligibility It is the student athlete’s responsibility to meet the eligibility requirements, not the Coaches, Counselor’s or school. The student athlete must take a vested interested. Many times parent complete the eligility center registration and students are un-aware.

NCAA Division I and II All DI and DII and NAIA student athletes must register with the respective Eligibility Center and meet the core course and act/SAT requirements NCAA Eligibility Center www.ncaaeligibilitycenter.org NAIA Eligibility www.playnaia.org 16 Core Course requirements Current seniors Core Course 2.0 Current Juniors and below 2.3 10 of 16 are locked in at the end of junior year (summer school included) and cannot be retaken ACT/SAT is determined by a sliding scale I will be around after this session or during PT conferences next week.
