Preamble of the Constitution We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

1st Period In order to form – to make A more perfect union- a better group of states Establish Justice- make things fair Insure domestic tranquility- keep our country safe from war Provide for the common defense- protect all Promote the general welfare- provide for the needs of all Secure the blessings of liberty- keep freedom safe our posterity – future generations Do ordain- make into law Establish this constitution- this group of values and beliefs

In our own words…. 1st period We the people of the U.S. want to make a better, more united group of states. We set rules to keep fairness and honesty and to guarantee peace in our own country. To provide safety for everyone, to expect good for everyone, to keep safe the blessing of freedom for ourselves and our future generations. We make these rules for our states and want to make them law.
