FDSN MEMBERSHIP

FDSN MEMBERSHIP IN AFRICA IASPEI MEETING IN CAPE TOWN IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO INVITE AFRICAN INSTITUTIONS TO JOIN FDSN FDSN ORGANIZED A SESSION ON AFRICAN NETWORKS AND INSTRUMENTATION WITH AFRICAARRAY (ANDY NYBLADE) UNFORTUNATELY, NOT ALL OF THE INSTITUTIONS INVITED WILL BE PRESENT IN PARTICULAR, REPRESENTATIVES FROM NIGER WERE UNABLE TO ATTEND

WG 1 STATION SITING AND INSTRUMENTATION (SEIJI TSUBOI NEW CATALOG OF BROAD BAND STATIONS HAS BEEN COLLECTED THERE IS A NEED TO KEEP REVIEW IT AND TO KEEP IT UPDATED (REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVES) INCREASE THE NUMBER OF STATIONS FORMING THE BACKBONE (REAL TIME TRANSMISSION) NEED TO DEVELOP A PLAN TO IDENTIFY STATIONS NEED TO ADDRESS THE STATION OPERATORS IN QUESTION IS IT TIMELY?

WG 2 DATA EXCHANGE AND DATA CENTRES (BERNARD DOST) NETWORK CODES DOCUMENT NEW NETWORK CODED DOCUMENT HAS BEEN PROPOSED BY ISC/ USGS/EMSC FDSN VIEWS AND OPINIONS ARE NEEDED 2. QUakeML THERE IS A NEW XML STANDARD BEING PROPOSED (COORDINATION DONE BY ETHZ) FDSN INPUT ON THIS MATTER SHOULD BE GIVEN

WG 3 DATA PRODUCTS AND TOOLS (TIM AHERN) NEW PRODUCTS AND SERVICES COORDINATED METADATA SERVICE STATION SERVICE REAL TIME STATIONS ARCHIVED STATIONS CAN AN ¨IRIS-LIKE¨ VIRTUAL NETWORKS BE MAINTAINED TOMOGRAPHIC MODELS STANDARDIZATION OF FORMATS/SERVICES 3-D VISUALIZATION SERVICES

WG IV FDSN-CTBT COORDINATION (JIM LYONS) SHOULD FDSN CONTINUE THE EFFORT TO REQUEST DATA FROM THE CTBT? UNRESTRICTED ACCESS TO DATA IN REAL TIME APPEARS TO BE NOT REALISTIC TODAY SOME PROGRESS HAS BEEN DONE: DATA DISTRIBUTED TO ISC AND SOME TSUNAMI WARNING CENTERS SHOULD FDSN SEEK A DIFFERENT STRATEGY: REQUEST DATA FOR LARGE M>5.5 OR DESTRUCTIVE EVENTS AND/OR FOR SPECIFIC SCIENTIFIC PURPOSES?

FDSN PARTICIPATION IN GEO (RHETT BUTLER) FDSN PARTICIPATES IN WHAT IS NOW CALLED TASK DI-09-01B) RHETT BUTLER HAS BEEN THE FDSN REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE BEGINNING NEW REPRESENTATIVE IS NEEDED FDSN PRESENCE NEEDS TO BE MAINTAINED IN GEO FDSN HAS PARTICIPATED IN GEO PUBLICATIONS
