Mindset - Growth or Fixed? Video https://youtu.be/Xv2ar6AKvGc

The difference between those who succeed and those who don’t is not the brains they are born with, but their approach to life, the messages they receive about their potential, and the opportunities they have to learn. Boaler, 2016

Turn & Talk How did this activity model a growth mindset for both facilitators and participants?

What About TEACHER Mindsets? We model the change we want to see happen.

Why do students give up? WE Educational psychology has focused on the concepts of learned helplessness and more currently growth or fixed mindsets to explain how and why students give up in the classroom setting. These ideas can also be applied to educators due to forced standardization, testing, scripted curriculum, and school initiatives. Many educators feel forced into a paradigm of teaching where they feel subjected to teaching practices outside of their control. When asked to engage in a process of continued growth and development, we hear...

Shifting to Growth Mindset A mental shift occurs when a fixed mindset starts to believe that there are options; that one can grow, change, and be significant.

Teacher Agency “The bottom line, is that teachers need to reclaim their perceived and real teacher agency, voice, and empowerment. They need to develop a growth mindset that they can and do have agency in their profession.” Teacher Agency and Today’s Teachers

Making the Shift Learn to hear your fixed mindset “voice.” Answer key of Fixed vs Growth Mindset Recognize that you have a choice. How will you interpret challenges, setbacks, and criticism? It’s up to you! Talk back to it with a growth mindset “voice.” Take the growth mindset action. Source
