CICOPA is the sectoral organisation of the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA) for industrial and service cooperatives

53 active members in 33 countries of the world

Two distinct types: - Workers’ cooperatives - Artisans’ cooperatives

Both types are growing around the world Most are SMEs

Estimate: Both types provide direct employment to around 20 million people (One fifth of direct employment of the whole cooperative movement)

The frontier between the two models (worker cooperatives and artisan cooperatives) is sometimes blur

the two models (worker and artisans’ cooperatives) share a number of common characteristics

Worker cooperatives are specific in terms of labour relations called «worker ownership » « travail associé »
