Does Utilizing the New Innovations Application CLICK TO GO BACK TO KIOSK MENU Does Utilizing the New Innovations Application Shortcut Increase Compliance? Amanda Esposito MD, Danielle Biggs MD, Fred Fiesseler DO, & Brian Walsh MD Morristown Medical Center – Atlantic Health System Morristown, NJ Objective To determine if providing residents with a mandatory training session on the use of a shortcut for logging procedures on their smartphones would increase compliance with logging procedures. Background Logging procedures is an integral part of resident training Logging procedures can be burdensome to residents Providing residents with a quick way to log procedures may improve overall compliance

Methods Procedure logging trends of residents in three year residency program were evaluated n=25 Weekly procedure logging was evaluated during three intervals that occurred over 3 consecutive months First interval Baseline week prior to intervention Second interval One week following reminder on the importance of logging procedures sent from the chiefs Third interval: After mandatory “training session” on the smart phone shortcut 10 minute demonstration during mandatory weekly conference Total number of procedures logged and percent of residents who logged procedures during each interval was calculated

Results Baseline week 81 procedures logged by 47% (CI: 27, 67) Reminder e-mail week 137 procedures logged by 76% (CO: 59, 96) Training session week 115 procedures logged by 76% (CI 59, 93) The reminder email significantly increased the percent of residents logging procedures, but the mandatory training sessions did not appear to have any impact

Conclusion Despite its seeming attractiveness, we found no additional benefit in procedure logging compliance with the New Innovations mobile shortcut
