Student Behaviors Be prompt Be prepared Be ready to learn when class begins. Be prepared Have materials with you and know due dates. Be a polite and positive participant Speak in a normal tone of voice, and listen attentively. Be productive Turn in work on time, and always do your best. Be a problem solver Correct problems quickly and peacefully before they escalate.

Showing Respect Value yourself. Be honest and ethical, and practice strong moral values. Treat all members of the school community and all visitors with politeness and respect. Use your best MANNERS Honor the ideas and opinions of others. Offer to help. Be responsible with property and belongings. No profanity

Passes If you need to leave the classroom for any reason, please consider the following: Personal needs MUST be addressed before school, during passing time, and after school Do not interrupt a class discussion or lecture to ask for a pass. All passes must be returned when you come back to class. You must be in an assigned area at ALL TIMES

How will I be graded? AP Environmental Science Tests/Projects - 50% Labs – 30% Homework/Quizzes – 20% Human Body Systems and A & P Tests/Projects – 50% Lab Reports/ Dissections/Activities – 25% Homework/Classwork/Quizzes – 25% Semester Grade Determination Quarter Grades – 80% Semester Exam – 20% Our Grading Scale 90-100% = A 80-89% = B 70-79% = C 60-69% = D Below 60% = F Grades are calculated on cumulative percentage and are rounded up whenever possible.

How will I be graded?

Copying/Plagiarism Copying the work of others is NOT tolerated Copying another student’s work or from internet sources will result in the following: A “0” for the assignment in the grade book An alternate assignment option (Mrs. Flieg’s discretion) Examples: Textbook outline Essay Research Paper Research Projects You are not allowed to copy and paste of someone else’s work and claim it as your own Summarize, reword, and paraphrase Use Proper Citations

Daily Classroom Procedures

Entering the classroom Sit in Assigned Seat and Complete Bell-Ringer Assignment 5 Minute Limit Always answer in complete sentences Begin working on the “agenda” items Only required materials should be on your table – purses, backpacks, large binders, etc should be placed on the floor or in a designated location If you are using a laptop or netbook, remember to sign it out Tardies: Students must be in their seats when the tardy bell rings

What do I do while I’m in class? Assignments (Learning Tasks) are posted on WhiteBoard Bell-to-Bell Learning Stay on-task! “Group Work” vs. Cooperative Learning Turn in completed assignments in appropriate basket Please do not put your work on my desk Please do not hand your papers to me (I do not want to lose them). Be attentive and participate in class discussions Focus and work diligently during independent work time.

What do I do while I’m in class?

Dismissal Procedures Please do not pack up materials until you are given permission Bell-to-bell learning Return borrowed materials Log off and power down your laptop or netbook (if applicable) Clean up your mess Push in your chair

What if I was absent? Check “Absent Work Crate” for Missing Assignments Tests/Quizzes If you are absent on the day a test or quiz was given, you will complete it on the day you return to class Missing the review is not a reason to postpone test Are there exceptions? Bell-Ringers count for in-class participation grade and may not be made up. Copying from another student’s work is not allowed. Regularly check SISK12 Portal for Grades and Missing Assignments

Complete Sentences When should I use complete sentences? What does a complete sentence look like? Points will be deducted for one word answers….even if you were (partially) correct.

The Purpose

Promote Lifelong Learning You can develop lifelong learning traits: By showing curiosity about human nature and how the world works. By seeking and valuing diversity. By persisting in seeking out new solutions. By using your unique talents and intelligence to promote positive change. By learning and applying technology tools to solve problems.

My Pledge to Students I will trust you until you give me reason to do otherwise. I will respect you and work with you to solve problems, however, I will not tolerate disrespectful behavior toward myself, staff, or other students (i.e. What you GIVE you RECEIVE) I will promptly correct and offer feedback on your work. I will work with you to meet learning goals as long as you are making the same effort I will offer extra help and alternative assessments should you require them.

Academic Lab Expectations Bring your Silent Sustained Reading Book with you EVERY day. Read for the first 10 Minutes of Ac/Lab - 5 points/day Take SRC Tests once per quarter (in Library) – 25% of your grade Bring your classwork and study materials with you everyday and work on them – 5 points/day Computer Lab, Math Lab, Writing Lab, Library, Visit other teachers…Make sure you get permission, first!
