Team not ME: Eating Montreal A Timeless Journey
Ope n Generally friendly Welcoming of various cultures/lifestyles o Immigration remains strong o "The Village" Montreal's gay neighborhood o First Peoples rights Progressive media culture
First People - Native Canadians Like in the U.S. ancestral rights are hard won, and kept, but it looks to be changing for the better.
Media Newspapers Magazines Books Film Art Video game makers Street artists
Local Public transportation network connects all parts of city as well as suburbs Food/restaurants focus on sourcing locally Distinct neighborhoods have unique identities Local language and history is maintained

Local food & drink we loved:
And some, maybe not...
My first realization of the French immersion I would get in Montreal.
Francophone French taught in schools and zealously defended by law Style of language distinct from anywhere else in French world City is technically bilingual, but preference overtly leans toward French o All advertisements, media, street signs, etc. are in French
Cosmopolitan Hub for immigration Modern/effective transportation, power, etc. Society seems generally progressive o Education o Healthcare o Environmental concerns Appreciation for the arts
Green 97% of energy is produced hydro electrically and there is expansion into biomass and wind energy Solar street lights were found commonly Biodome heated through groundwater At least two recycling bins for every trash can in the metro
Culturally Rich Distinctive heritage with diverse backgrounds/roots o As seen in architecture Citizens seem motivated to preserve the province's uniqueness (especially relating to language)
What we found hard to understand: Restaurant etiquette o Tipping, checks, etc. Language
Comparison to other experiences: Safe Temperament/attitude of locals o Not snotty about language, etc. Language (especially French) o Culturally important Transportation o Easy to navigate
