This science fair project reveals the importance of the parachute's shape to slow the rate of its decent. The hypothesis stated that If a parachute is built using 3 different shapes: circle, triangle, square; then the circle will decrease the descending speed. The results showed that the circle decreased the rate of decent by ten seconds. The circle offered the most even surface area; thus increasing the drag of air causing the parachute to slow down. The results emphasized the importance of an even distributed surface area to decrease the rate of decent. The circle was the most aerodynamic of all three shapes.
