Creating A Bibliography Originally Created by Rhonda Krummen, Librarian and Media Specialist, Ockerman Middle School

A bibliography is an alphabetical list of books, websites, and other resources used to write a report or an article.

A bibliography is placed at the end of a report, or an article, to show where your information came from.

A bibliography is placed at the end of a report, or an article, to protect you from a charge of plagiarism.

Each bibliographic entry should, at minimum, include these facts about each source of information: Author’s name Title of book, article, or website Copywrite date

Book citation: Author’s last name, First name. Title of Book. Copywrite date.

Capitalize all proper nouns! Insert the correct punctuation! Book citation: Author’s last name, First name. Title of Book. Copywrite date. Insert the correct punctuation! Underline the title!

Encyclopedia article citation: Author’s last name, First name. "Article Title." Title of the Encyclopedia. Copywrite Date.

Encyclopedia article citation: Put quotes around the article title! Capitalize all proper nouns! Encyclopedia article citation: Author’s last name, First name. "Article Title." Title of the Encyclopedia. Copywrite Date. Insert the correct punctuation! Underline the title of the encyclopedia!

Website citation: Author’s last name, First name. “Title of Web Site Article.” <URL>. Copywrite date.

Put in the complete web address (URL) Capitalize all proper nouns! Website citation: Author’s last name, First name. “Title of Web Site Article.” <URL>. Copywrite date. Insert the correct punctuation! Put quote marks around webpage title!

Things to keep in mind… type “Bibliography” at top of the page one inch margins should be clean on all four sides of page if you type, use Times New Roman and 12 point font if you hand write, use blue or black ink skip one line between each entry mix entries alphabetically
