Rudyard Kipling Date of birth: 30 December 1865 in Bombay, British India Date of death: 18 January 1936 in London due to hemorrhage Ashes are interred in the Poet's Corner of Westminster Abbey, near T.S. Eliot

His father, John Lockwood Kipling, was an arts and crafts teacher at the JeeJeebhoy School of Art Was educated in England at the United Services College in Bideford Had a rough childhood while living in the Holloway's household

In 1881 travelled back to Lahore, India The first Englishman to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature (1907) On 18 January 1892, married to Carrie Balestier They had three children: Josephine, Elsie and John

He became the assistant editor for the Anglo- Indian Civil and Military Gazette and later The Pioneer. In 1886 he published his first collection of verse called the Departmental Ditties In 1888 was published his first prose collection called the Plain Tales from the Hills In 1889 returned to England and won success with Barrack- Room Ballads

During 1889 he published six collections of short stories: Soldiers Three, The Story of the Gadsby, In Black and White, Under the Deodars, The Phantom Rickshaw and Wee Willie Winkie containing a total of 41 stories Published many sketches in Letters of Marque After publishing his novel The Light that Failed, he had a nervous breakdown He was a prolific writer, achieved fame quickly Was the poet of the British Empire and its yeoman, the common soldier, whom he glorified in many of his works He often drew the illustrations in his books by himself

The Jungle Book It is a collection of stories mainly for children First published in magazines in 1893-94 Some illustrations in the original publication were made by his father, John Lockwood Kipling These stories were written while Rudyard lived in Vermont There is also The Second Jungle Book that was published in 1895

The tales are fables, using animals in an anthropomorphic manner to give moral lessons The most famous of the stories are “Rikki-Tikki- Tavi” and “Toomai of the Elephants” This book was used as a motivational book by the Cub Scouts

The complete book consists of 14 chapters This book has a lot of adaptions as comics or even animational films Story about a boy named Mowgli who is raised by wolves, his later life with the help of Baloo the bear, Bagheera the black panther and many others
