Expectations What is the only way to become a better mathematician? A. Use Google B. Cheat off your neighbor C. Pray a lot D. Practice problem solving regularly (and prayer can’t hurt…)

Syllabus Information open from website Supplies Calculator (TI-30xlls) OR Similar 1 ½ Inch 3 ring binder Loose leaf paper Pencils and Erasers Pens for grading (If acquiring required materials is a problem, please see me ASAP!)

Cell Phones Mrs. Lillard believes that cell phones are devices found in prison cells. You get one call per week. Are for social media. Why do we need to leave our houses? Have a place and a purpose, but are rarely used in this class and should rarely be seen in this class. Have a place and a purpose, but tend to distract most of us from the task at hand given our lack of self discipline.

Problem Solving According to Mrs. Lillard, a good problem solver Knows what to do when he doesn’t know what to do. Never has to ask questions. Works alone. Has a community of learners in which he shares in collaborative thought.

Mrs. Lillard believes that… Mathematics is a spectator sport. Sit back and watch the show. Mathematics is a loner sport. You’re on your own buddy. Mathematics is better learned with each other. Communication is helpful. Mathematics can be tough. Get a buddy to help.

Homework/activities/bell work – 40 % of Grade Homework should be done in Pencil Graded by accuracy or completeness NO WORK, NO CREDIT, NO KIDDING 5 points each assignment Late work will be accepted for 80% until the unit test and 50% after that.

LATE WORK  Mark with an A- absent the day assigned or collected ?- do not remember if you were absent E- excused by Mrs. Lillard or official document L- if you chose not to complete the homework on time for any other reason

Excused Absences Let me know at least 1 class period BEFORE you will be gone for excused absences. All work must be turned in prior to leaving or discussed an alternative with me. Notes (own time) If you miss a test, you will have 1 week to make the test up (on your own time).

TESTS, QUIZZES, FINAL – 60% of grade A unit test will be given approx. every 3 weeks Final each semester Quizzes will be given periodically Evaluate

Restroom/Drink/Other Take care of your needs between classes. We have work to do. As a general rule, restroom breaks are not taken in this class. We are busy. However….in dire necessity times…be smart about it. Go on your work time, not in small group time when your absence will be felt or during whole class discussion/lecture when your absence will be a disruption. Hall pass is required.

Calculators Classroom calculators are available for your use. If they start to disappear, they WILL disappear. Play it safe, bring your own. Phones will not be used for a calculator in this class.

Dazed and Confused? Please Come ask for help if you have ANY questions. Before/After School Advisory

Extras Cheating Zero for you and all other persons involved Cell phones I don’t want to see or hear them or I will take them…to be picked up after class. Please don’t make this an issue. Laptops Used for Education as directed by the teacher ………not for Games, Chatting, Movies, Music, etc.

More Extras Discipline I rarely have problems, but if problems occur I will follow handbook policy. There will be parent contact with detentions as deemed appropriate.
