2nd Amendment You have the right to own a gun

Third Amendment The Government cannot force you to shelter soldiers in your home without your permission in time of war or peace.

4th Amendment The police can’t come in your home without special permission

Fourth Amendment What does a policeman need in order to search your home? A warrant given to him by a judge Probable cause is also needed

Fifth Amendment You cannot be tried for the same crime twice—called “Double Jeopardy” You do not have to testify against your self. “I plead the fifth” You must have due process of law before you are convicted The government cannot take your land unless it pays.

Sixth Amendment Right to speedy, fair trial You must be told why you are being arrested You must be given a lawyer even if you can’t afford one

7th Amendment You have the right to a trial with a jury for most crimes

Eighth Amendment Fines must be reasonable Punishment must be fair Prisoner kissing his Mom through the glass at prison

9th Amendment The Constitution cannot deny other rights Examples: People have a right to choose how they want to live their life. (Pursuit of Happiness) Where you want to live What kind of job you want You can choose to go to college If you want to get married If you want to have children Where you want to go on vacation

10th Amendment The states have rights not given to the federal government Examples Seat belt laws Speed limit laws Who they do business with (trading) Zero tolerance rules at each school
