What are the sources of law? We took many of our legal ideas from the Code of Hammurabi. We also recognize constitution law, case law, and common law and foundations for our current legal system.

What are the types of law? Civil Law – deals with cases involving disputes between people/groups. Criminal Law – punishes wrongdoers who commit crimes Military Law – applies to the armed forces and individuals serving in the armed forces Juvenile Law – deals with the actions and well-being of those under the age of 18 Constitutional Law – protects our rights granted in the Constitution and deals with the functions/structure of our government

Why are certain Supreme Court cases significant? These cases decide the Constitutionality of certain laws in our country They set a precedent for how cases will be decided in the future

What are the landmark Supreme Court Cases? Plessy v. Ferguson Upheld “separate but equal” Allowed for the segregation of citizens on the basis of race Brown v.
