Using scenarios and the changing energy landscape Stakeholder update September 2018

Purpose of this document This document provides an update on our engagement around using scenarios to base our ESO RIIO-2 business plan on. It covers: Our approach to scenarios and uncertainty Our commonality scorecard: a draft set of robust data that we propose basing our business plan on, subject to further engagement Our approach to uncertainty, something we want to test in autumn 2018 engagement We will update this document in November 2018.

Our approach to scenarios and uncertainty The energy landscape is uncertain, but we need a robust foundation for our business plan and an understanding of likely changes our plan will need to accommodate. This will ensure our business plan meets the current and future needs of customers, stakeholders and consumers. Stakeholders have supported us using FES 2018 as the basis for our business plan, given its credible, verifiable and stakeholder-led development and wide use across the industry

2030 commonality / uncertainty We have developed a 2030 commonality “scorecard” and identified the top areas of change and uncertainty (2/2) Level 3: range of futures Range of possible future outcomes; outcome anywhere within range Our upcoming engagement will focus on the implications of the uncertainty: Does the uncertainty matter? What might be the affects on industry and consumers? How might the ESO need to adapt?
