Coverage and Completeness Brisbane Accord Group Coverage and Completeness Statistics for Development Division, SPC

COVERAGE The population served by the system Geographical – national vs main islands only Specific populations – foreigners, off-island events

CONTENT COMPLETENESS How complete and reliable (by variable) is the unit record data you have to work with (for the population covered) - missing variables: sex age dates

COMPLETENESS What is the proportion of events in the population covered that are recorded. Note – assessing completeness at a national level assumes national coverage –that all events in the country should be recorded .

Observed vs Expected events

CALCULATING COMPLETENESS Where do we find data on what is expected?

Observed vs Expected events

Adjusting your data Consider what disaggregation is needed based on your coverage and consistency Calculate coverage For your data set (for analysis) For your registration data How complete is your data? Use as is ? Adjust up? (can you correct for under-reporting) Proportional data analysis only (not representative)
