Third Grade Newsletter GIFTED GAZETTE 3.8 Feb. 26th - Mar. 2nd What we’re learning this week… Test Schedule Reading: This week we will… read Because of Winn Dixie connect character traits to actions in the text Design Lost Dog Poster read self-selected novels about friendship in Literature Circles - students will complete book report on the book they have chosen Language/Writing/Vocabulary: This week we will… Orange Vocabulary Workshop Unit 6 Use mentor sentences to identify simple subjects, simple predicates, and adjectives Louisiana Practice Test Prep Packet Spelling: utilize dictionary/thesaurus/dictionary.com references and refer to list of “non-negotiable” words in writing portfolio Math: This week we will… Compare and classify shapes by attributes, sides, and angles Group shapes with shared attributes Identify 2-dimensional shapes based on attributes Create geometry “wanted poster” and riddles Project of the Week (P.O.W.): due Friday Reading: THURSDAY reading comprehension test with concentration on character traits and actions Orange Vocabulary Workshop: THURSDAY Unit 6 Assessment Language: THURSDAY Mentor Sentence Assessment Spelling: Assessed through writing. Students are expected to consult dictionaries, peer editors, computer resources, and “non-negotiable” words to monitor spelling when writing.
