Matthew 5:7 7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

Matthew 9:9-13 As Jesus passed on from there, he saw a man called Matthew sitting at the tax booth, and he said to him, “Follow me.” And he rose and followed him. 10 And as Jesus reclined at table in the house, behold, many tax collectors and sinners came and were reclining with Jesus and his disciples. 11 And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

Matthew 9:9-13  12 But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 13 Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Hebrews 4:14-16 14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Blessed are the Merciful Matt. 5:7, Matt. 9:9-13, Heb. 4:14-16 Sermon Series on The Beatitudes Blessed are the Merciful Matt. 5:7, Matt. 9:9-13, Heb. 4:14-16

Introduction Mercy comes from a heart that has first felt its spiritual bankruptcy, and has come to grief over its sin, and has learned to wait meekly for the timing of the Lord, and to cry out in hunger for the work of his mercy to satisfy us with the righteousness we need. - John Piper

Introduction Grace is what we get which we do not deserve. Mercy is where we don’t get what we truly do deserve.

Main Idea We receive mercy from God above to be able to be merciful and show His mercy to others.
