A n i m a l Structures Some animals actually have a sixth sense.

What you’ll learn :) Major organs of animals How those organs affect: behavior growth and survival

Brain regulates our growth, behavior, and survival part of the Nervous System processes information controls the body of the animal regulates our growth, behavior, and survival Tell the students that connections in the brain actually allow for faster and better thought processing; brains also vary in size between different types animals. Fish vs T-rex.

Heart part of the Circulatory system pumps blood throughout body keeps the animal alive by getting oxygen throughout the body essential organ for survival Tell the students that the heart never actually stops beating, and it doesn’t really look like this: <3

Muscles part of the Muscular system allows movement of an animal’s body composed of tissues integrated around bones important for moving around to find food for survival muscles adjust as the bodies of animals grow Ask the students what muscles can be used for and explain to them that the shape is different for all animals; squid tentacle muscles vs bird’s wing.

Stomach part of Digestive system processes food filled with acid the breakdown of food is important for animals to absorb nutrients (in the intestines) needed for growth and survival Tell the students about the acidity of the stomach fluid and how it differs between different kind of animals; humans vs a stronger acid in vultures for digesting decayed animals. Also a fun fact about how cows have more than one stomach!

Skin Integumentary System allows animals to feel and sense the environment protects animals from outside materials that can harm the body (germs, pathogens, etc.) Ask the students what the biggest organ of the body is. It is the skin. Why is the skin so important.

Lungs Respiratory System put oxygen into blood cells to be transported throughout the body filters out dust/particles in air expands/contracts, vital to our survival and growth

Bones Skeletal system allows for structure of animals protects internal organs from harm important to growth, how animals move/behave. Explain to students that bones are made of calcium and broken ones can be healed; bones also vary in size and shape.

NOW Y O U KNOW! Numerous body parts all work together to help the body work. It helps us grow, affect how we behave and allow us to survive!
