Session Plan

Session No. 21 CIRCUS Focus: Balance Sub-Focus: Different types of balances, group work, individual work Session Aim: To develop balancing and movement skills using various types of apparatus and equipment. To be able to perform a variety of different balances. To work in a group or individually.

Activity Detail Skills Used Resource Warm Up Skill Focus Travelling around area in different ways such as jogging, side steps etc. (Using cone as steering wheel) Stretching exercises. Jogging Stretching Skill Focus Split in to groups: Circuit 4 stations Different types of circus skills. Spend allotted time on each and rotate round Various balancing skills Co-ordination Technical Practice Station 1 – Tight rope walking: (balancing across skipping rope) Increase difficulty by doing it with item on head (bean bag). Station 2 – Body balancing: using the body to perform various balance, ranging from basic to more challenging depending on ability. Station 3 – Hooping: using a hoop to try and perform various skills, (e.g. spinning around hips, wrists etc.) Station 4: Juggling: using small balls to introduce the skill of juggling, start off with one ball catching and try and develop understanding of basic juggling. Balancing Throwing Catching Agility Skipping ropes Bean bags Hoops Small balls Progression Increase difficulty of each station as stated above depending on ability.

Assessment Struggles to balance, work in a group or individually. Occasionally demonstrates the ability to do so. Can balance occasionally and demonstrates some group and individual work. May frequently do one of the objectives but not both. Frequently balances, works in a group and individually and is able to do these things throughout the session.
