POST-SECONDARY RESEARCH Understand difference between U and M (no difference in Ontario) Understand difference between ‘required’ and ‘recommended’ How averages for admission are determined – gr. 11 marks = Early Acceptance (only used for conditional early offers) vs. gr. 12 marks (this is what SECURES a final offer) - averages (used for admissions) vs exams (used for advanced placement at University OR transfer credit) Summerschool and nightschool and repeated courses –not AP *** 99.5% of programs do not care how taken (Waterloo – math and engineering; McMaster and Ryerson – post gr. 12 ss) Personal Response forms - commitment to a program such as AP could be beneficial Understand there are differences between Universities and how they treat AP exams Transfer credit vs. advanced placement Number depends on the University ***electronicinfo.ca has all of this information***
POST-SECONDARY RESEARCH How to research options for Ontario –electronicinfo.ca - get admission info and AP info (ie. UofT Ch.Eng, Queen’s Psych) How to research options outside of Ontario (other province and USA) Research online individual school
Example – Engineering Waterloo Advanced Placement (AP) The Faculty of Engineering considers AP courses to be a good challenge and good preparation for our programs. You may find that you have covered some of the material in our first term courses but, in most cases, not enough for you to be exempted from the entire course without potentially running into academic difficulties later. The depth and level of problem-solving is very different in our Engineering programs than in AP courses and as a result, we don't grant first-year course exemptions for AP courses.
Example – Engineering Queen’s Advanced Placement (AP) – The Advanced Placement program and courses are considered excellent preparation for university courses. Queen's recognizes many Advanced Placement courses as prerequisite courses for admission. Students who have completed AP courses may be eligible to receive credits toward their degree.
Outside Ontario i.e. Dalhousie: 5 gr. 12 courses used ie.
