Presentation transcript:

Metric Temperature: Celsius In science, the Fahrenheit scale is not often used, so it is important to become familiar with the Celsius scale

C = 5/9 X (F – 32) The above formula is how you can convert from Fahrenheit to Celsius. In this class we do not convert from F to C, we just use Celsius for all measurements. That is why you should know some common measurements in Celsius.

How did it all start? The Celsius scale was established based upon water. Anders Celsius established two fixed points for his thermometer, the freezing point of water and the boiling point of water.

Important Temperature Points What do we need to know? Important Temperature Points Celsius Fahrenheit Freezing point of water 0o 32o Normal room temperature 22o 72o Human body temperature 37o 98o Boiling point of water 100o 212o

Helpful hints Remember that the thermometers in science class will be Celsius thermometers. On the cabinet in the front of the room is a thermometer with both scales, use it for comparison.
