When the opposite of what is expected to happen, happens. Situational Irony When the opposite of what is expected to happen, happens. Example: You wash your car and then it rains.

Dramatic Irony When the audience is aware of something that the character in the story is not. Example: In a scary movie, the audience knows the killer is hiding upstairs and the victim runs upstairs to escape.

What is said is different than what is meant (Sarcasm). Verbal Irony What is said is different than what is meant (Sarcasm). Example: Your significant other shows up for a date at a fancy restaurant in sweat pants and you sarcastically say, “It’s so nice of you to dress up for our date”.

Which type of irony is this? With your small group, what time of irony this is… You win the award for being the most generous classmate in the 8th grade. Later that day, a homeless person asks for money and you scream “NO WAY!”
