Students will be solving problems with 3 addends and trying to group 2 addends to make a ten. This is why it is important for your child to know the number bond partners to 10. Students will work on making the friendly number 10. They will be looking at equations to group numbers to make 10 and then add quickly as a Fast 10 fact. Holiday’s Around the World This month we will learn about some of the traditional ways five different cultures celebrate. This week we will learn about the traditions of Mexico and learn about Germany. We will make beautiful crafts and enjoy Mexican hot chocolate on Friday. If you can help by sending in a gallon of milk Friday morning and cups, that would be so helpful. We have many families from many different countries. If you would like to share the traditions of these countries, please let me know. We would love to have you come in and share! They had so much fun. Kindness Elf This week our class is being visited daily by the Kindness Elf. The Kindness Elf is leaving us notes each day of how to be kind to each other, our family, friends , and our community. We are using manners and kind words to communicate. We are working on using a kind tone of voice when we talk to others; it is not always what we say but how we say it.. Can’t wait to see what the Kindness Elf has us do this week!

Winter Holiday Party On Friday, December 21st First Graders will decorate gingerbread cookies and enjoy the Polar Express Day. Friday the 21st, is also PJ Day. Children may wear PJs and robes, but please have them also wear regular shoes for when we go out to recess and lunch. We will be having our party from 10:15-11:30 on the 21st. Please be looking for a sign up soon of how you can help.   Homework Math- Students will complete a fast 10 and subtraction review sprints. Please sit with your child and see what strategy they are using to subtract. We learned that y at the ends of words can make the long e or long I sound. Please have them read and highlight y. Have your child read the passage numerous times through the week to build fluency. Writer’s Workshop This week we will begin opinion writing and discuss what is an opinion. Please make sure your child brings in their collection. We will be using them over the next few weeks to write about. Please make sure there are no more than 5 items and they fit in a baggie.
