Male Reproductive System Anatomy Male Reproductive System

The Male Reproductive System Male has reproductive organs that are both inside and outside the pelvis. The testicles The duct system The accessory glands The penis

THE REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM The Male Reproductive System Scrotum contains testes – hangs outside body to regulate temperature smooth muscle can raise or lower it

Testicles sperm develops here Testosterone produce (male hormone)

The Duct System Epididymis Mature & storage of sperm located above and behind the testicle

Ductus (vas) deferens carries sperm from the epididymis to the urethra

The penis Made up of two parts The shaft (main part of penis) The glans (tip of the penis) At the end of the glans is a small slit or opening, which is where semen and urine exit the body.

What does the Male Reproductive System Do? The male sex organs work together to produce and release semen into the reproductive system of the female during sexual intercourse. Produces sex hormones, which help a boy develop into a sexually mature man during puberty.

How do sperm travel They develop in the testicles Move to the vas deferens The seminal vesicles and prostate gland produce a whitish fluid called seminal fluid Mixes with sperm-form semen The erect penis forces semen out through the duct system and urethra Each time a man ejaculates, it can contain up to 500 million sperm.

Anatomy Female Reproductive system

The Female Reproductive System Located entirely in the pelvis Vulva- opening to the vagina and other reproductive organs located inside the body. Internal Organs Vagina Uterus Fallopian Tubes Ovaries Breasts and Mammary Glands

The Female Reproductive System

Ovaries Small pair of glands (size of almonds) Produce female sex hormones-estrogen and progesterone Ova (eggs)

Fallopian Tubes Pair of muscular tubes that extend from the left and right upper corners of the uterus to the edge of the ovaries. Eggs are carried to uterus

Uterus Hollow, muscular, pear-shaped organ Connected to fallopian tubes Connected to vagina via cervix Provides support to the embryo during early development

Vagina Elastic, muscular tube that connects the cervix of the uterus to exterior of the body

The 3 Purposes of the Vagina Penis is inserted during sexual intercourse Pathway that a baby takes out of a woman’s body during childbirth, called the birth canal. It provides the route for the menstrual blood (period) to leave the body from the uterus.

Breasts and Mammary Glands The breasts are specialized organ- contain mammary glands, milk ducts, and adipose tissue The mammary glands-produce milk to feed infants
