Using the Distributive Property COURSE 2 LESSON 1-1 At a snack shop, you order a taco that costs $3.10 and a juice that costs $.90. If you buy the same lunch for the next 8 days, what will be the total cost of all of the lunches? Use the distributive property to calculate your total. 8 ($3.10 + $ 0.90 ) = 8 ($3) + 8 ($0.10) + 8 ($ 0.90 ) = $24 + $0.80 + $7.20 = $24 + $8.00 = $32.00 1-1

Order of Operations and the Distributive Property COURSE 2 LESSON 1-9 You have a piece of wallboard with a piece cut from one corner. What is the area of the wallboard? The length of the missing piece is 5 ft. Its width is 2 ft. Area of original wallboard Area of missing piece Words Expression – 12 • 4 5 • 2 1-9

Order of Operations and the Distributive Property COURSE 2 LESSON 1-9 (continued) 12 • 4 – 5 • 2 = 48 – 10 Multiply. = 38 Subtract. The area of the wallboard is 38 ft2. 1-9
