The Rise of Civilization The Five Traits

Advanced Cities Cities became more than permanent homes and farms. Advanced cities included: Religion Government Advanced technology Written and Spoken Language

Specialized Workers Due to food surpluses, people were allowed to do other types of work other than farming. This work required special skills such as: Carpenters Jewelry makers Potters Sewed clothes Scribes (professional writers)

Complex Institutions At this time many institutions began to develop to meet the needs of the people. Some institutions included: Government Army Schools Religion

Record Keeping As the society grew, it was important to keep track of many things. This is how writing developed. The wanted to keep track of: Trade Supluses

Advanced Technology Societies advanced as people learned better ways of doing things. Some advancements included: Irrigation New Tools New Materials (bronze)
