A Guide to Chairing, Exhorting and Public Speaking

The purpose of a Seminar or Lecture is: The Role of our Meetings The purpose of a Seminar or Lecture is: Teach the Gospel & First Principles of the Bible to interested friends and young people (1Cor 3:2; Heb 5:12) Create a desire to learn God’s Word and Purpose by growing in understanding (2Peter 3:16) A well conducted Seminar or Lecture will aid the audience in paying attention to the Speaker and his Subject. It will therefore aid in the process of learning

Chairman for Seminar/Lecture Preparation is the Key to success Be familiar with the Agenda Review well before lecture Make sure the Speaker is available/ready Confirm the Subject/Reading, if required/Hymns? Arrive 15-10 minutes early. Make sure everything is ready Give consideration to the needs of the occasion A lecture/Seminar is different to a Bible Class or Exhortation The Audience will be different

Chairman for Seminar/Lecture Welcome those attending & thank them for coming Seek a blessing on the Speaker & Hearer Phil 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God (NKJV) Heb 13:15 Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name. Prayers should be specific for the occasion, emphasising that everyone needs to grow in the understanding of God’s Word & Purpose

Chairman for Seminar/Lecture Do not attempt to preach the Gospel in your prayer Let the Speaking Brother give the Seminar/Lecture. This is not the responsibility of the Chairman Thank everyone for attending Direct them to any literature on the subject Invite them to next lecture/seminar Invite them to study the Bible – Bible Classes Invite them to discuss the Bible with any present Closing prayer brief – again giving thanks to God and praying that all might come to understand His Purpose

Conclusion to communicate to illustrate To appeal, and finally To activate the audience (Ecclesia, Young People or Friends) to respond to the Call of our Heavenly Father Keys to Understanding the Bible
