Activity 1 – Target Groups “Work with others to identify those target groups F&RS should engage” Young Drivers / Road Users (15-25) Company Car / Road Safe Schemes LGU Drivers Offending / Poor Drivers / Road Users Motorcyclists Outcomes Progress to Date Outcomes & Progress to date Work with stakeholders to identify target groups See list – developed with LARSOA / ACPO Provide Guidance as to break into 15-25 yr age group (key stage iv – yr 11) Particular gap identified in targeting 11-15 year olds where little or no material or designed interventions Working established on 30th Nov 06 and met 11th Jan 07, Aim to close this gap by March 07 Provide advice and guidance – road safety schemes – target company car drivers Highways agency tool kit in development to address LGV and company car drivers – Also road safety officers have materials back at the ranch – tie into these packages Provide archive and guidance – offenders Yet to be addressed Provide guidance – LGV drivers Covered in road safe outcome

Activity 2 – Prevention Initiative Toolkit “Provide a catalogue of prevention programmes aligned to each target group to enable the service to “pick and choose” a programme to meet a local need” Outcomes Progress to Date Outcomes & Progress to Date Produce a catalogue of road safety interventions Done – listed late 2006 Preventions to copy Show DVD (snippets of type of material available) Conduct gap analysis of existing programmes against target group & produce programmes 11-15 group found wanting and is being developed LGV and company car in development Rest covered in catalogue

Activity 3 – Develop Engagement Toolkits “Work with others to identify ‘best methods’ to ‘break into’ existing curriculum programmes to reach target groups” Outcomes Progress to Date Outcomes & Progress to Date Carry out service wide evaluation of how “FRS’s” have effectively integrated road safety into the curriculum programmes Develop and share with the service at large tools and techniques to integrate road safety into curriculum Develop effective employment tools and techniques of how to effectively engage with all the target groups All these are yet to commence and we are looking for volunteers to take this forward

Activity 4 – Evaluation “To ensure that existing and future prevention initiatives are clearly making a difference – the sub group – will seek to identify or develop an effective evaluation toolkit to apply to all prevention activities” Outcomes Progress to Date Outcomes & Progress to Date Provide an evolution toolkit IDEA/CFRS have produced an evolution toolkit Some academic research is available for a suitable programme – will be identified in due course Linking into how our partners evaluate programmes Formally evaluate programmes and report to CFOA and membership Hope to showcase “best practice” or “introduction” of future conferences Will set up web forum to do so within CFOA Links with the IRMP steering work for CFOA

Activity 5 – Capture, incorporate, disseminate key messages “Working alongside ‘Marketing & Communications’ and ‘Inter-agency’ work streams, capture and incorporate key road safety messages ‘sound bites’ into road safety prevention initiatives and disseminate to the service at large” Outcomes Progress to Date Outcomes & Progress to Date Ensure key messages and sound bites of our partners are consistent across the service Board updated by “think” the central government plank on road safety Communications and marketing links – Susan Develop where appropriate our “own” If we do ensure marketing and communications are kept aware

Activity 6 – Specific Road Safety Messages “Work alongside other work streams and partners to develop specific road safety interventions such as roadside education packages to compliment enforcement action in speed awareness courses in lieu of fixed penalty fines etc” Outcomes Progress to Date Outcomes & Progress to date Where such exist – ensure they are evaluated for impact and fed back into Service We need you to keep us informed Develop such with partners Yet to start Develop opportunity to run Speed Awareness Courses following recent announcement by DOT Will entirely depend upon locality and demand Will seek to capture and share with others

Activity 7 – Mainstream Road Safety Awareness “Working with others, assist the service at large to incorporate road safety awareness into other prevention activities (i.e. anti-social behaviour interventions) targeted at the ‘at risk’ groups Outcomes Progress to Date Outcomes & Progress to Date The service will deliver road safety and increase awareness whenever we engage with the at risk groups – for whatever purpose Lobby resulted in road safety in partnership section of the national framework Working with NCFSC to INTRUDE road safety into general safety education More is needed and work yet to do
