FOOD CHAIN A food chain shows how each living thing gets its food.

PRODUCERS Plants are called PRODUCERS because they are able to use light energy from the Sun to produce food.

CONSUMERS Animals cannot produce their own food so they must eat plants and/or animals. They are called CONSUMERS.

DECOMPOSER Bacteria and fungi that feed on decaying matter.

Types of CONSUMERS HERBIVORES CARNIVORES OMNIVORES Animals that eat ONLY PLANTS CARNIVORES Animals that eat OTHER ANIMALS OMNIVORES Animals and people that eat BOTH animals and plants
