Why I choose the topic Future career Dad is a Mechanic Love to work on cars I chose this topic because I want to be a mechanic in the future. My dad is a mechanic and when I was 11 years old, I helped my dad with working on cars and scooters. I also love to work on cars. To me it’s fun because I like that it’s hands on and I like working with tools.

Thesis Statement Today’s mechanics have to have many more levels of training and expertise than mechanics fifty years ago.

History No need for auto mechanics No engines in the cars horses, bicycles, trains, walking No engines in the cars Horse pulled Bicycle mechanics fixed the cars Back in history it was really hard to get a car fixed because there were no mechanics. The only way people got around was by trains, bicycles, horses, and walking. Cars didn’t have engines so they had to get pulled by horses. The only people who were able to fix cars at that time bicycle mechanics. The reason why bicycle mechanics were the ones to work on the cars were because the cars had no engines and they had bicycle wheels and were basically like a bicycle.

Types of Engines Mechanics work on many types of engines: hybrids solar diesel gasoline Say: There are many types of engines a mechanic has to know about. There are hybrids like found in a Prius, they run electricity. Then you have solar powered cars, use sun as energy. Diesel engines use different carburetors and have different ignitions. But most of my work is on the gasoline engines. These are the only engines I work on at my job.

Diploma 2-year degree from a community college Degree from a vocational school Certification Program - less than a year To be able to become a mechanic you need to go to community college and get a two year degree. This means that you at least have to have a high school diploma. I learned that it might quicker to go to a vocational school to get trained or a certification program it would be less than a year and then you could get a job. To get a job you need to prove that you have a license to certify that you are a mechanic.

Product I have learned: Change Brakes Change Oil Change Axle Weld a muffler Customer Service Computers to check engines When I was little I learned how to change brakes with my dad, so when I came to the U.S, I got a job at Custom Exhaust & Brakes to be a mechanic. They taught me by looking at the work they were doing. After that they gave me some hands on experience. A mechanic told me what to do, step by step. They told me what tools to use and what the different parts were. It was pretty easy for me to catch on to it. Now, I can change brakes on my own without help. Some of the other skills I have learned are: changing the axle, weld a muffler, customer service, and the computers to check engines. I have been working at this job for about a month now, and I usually work about 14 hours per week.

Weld a Muffler Welding is the hardest thing as being a mechanic because you have to keep the welding gun at an angle in order to weld straight, and because you are dealing with fire.

Closing I would choose my topic again. Connections to when I was young What Now? Yes, I would choose my topic again because it will be my future job. Working on my project made me think about when I was little and working on the car with my dad. With what I learned I hope to continue to work on getting better at working on cars. I am planning on going to AB-Tech to study auto mechanics. One day, I would like to open my own shop.

Challenges Replacing a car axle Welding Some of the challenges I faced was putting on an axle on a car. This was a challenge because you have to take a lot of parts off of the car just to get to the axle. Welding was also hard for me because you had to put it at a angle to weld and keep it straight to make a straight line. Being a mechanic is not hard for me, but for most people they have difficulty fixing a car. I know that my future job will always be around as long as people have cars.
