Future-proof careers Health innovation, by definition, represents the future. In times of economic uncertainty it is all the more important to justify the price of new health innovations – Health Economics. A problem that needs solving Carmarthenshire contains a number of areas which are in the “most deprived tenth” of Wales. In Wales, 142,595 (22%) children and young people aged under 20 live in poverty. 17.3% of people in Carmarthenshire are on social benefits (job seekers/incapacity) In the ex-mining towns of South Wales, children are more likely to live in poverty or deprivation than most other places in Wales. Being NEET is associated with poor health outcomes later in life, and a greater likelihood of contact with the criminal justice system. Poverty is defined as a household income less than 60% of the median UK income.
