Circulatory System Day 2

Date: 11/30 – 12/01 Topic: Cardio System Day 3 Learning Target: Identify factors that affect blood flow

Bellringer What are the 4 chambers of the heart? what does each chamber do? Explain how blood flows through the body start at the right atrium (Hint: Follow the arrows on the floor)

Pulmonary Circulation The portion of the cardiovascular system which carries deoxygenated blood away from the heart, to the lungs, and returns oxygenated (oxygen-rich) blood back to the heart.

Systemic Circulation Is the part of the cardiovascular system which carries oxygenated blood away from the heart to the body, and returns deoxygenated blood back to the heart.

Blood Clot Blood clots are gel-like clumps of blood

Atherosclerosis: a disease in which plaques of fatty material deposit themselves on the inner walls of the arteries.

Sickle Cell Anemia Sickle cell anemia is a disease in which your body produces abnormally shaped red blood cells. The cells are shaped like a crescent or sickle

Engage Why is it important for blood to circulate through our body? Student, can you add to what previous student said? Student, do you support or challenge previous students ideas? Why?

Engage Student, predict what would be the consequence of someone eating a diet full of cholesterol/grease. Student, build upon what previous student said. Student, defend or challenge previous students answer, explain why. Student, predict what would be the effect on blood resistance. Student, verify previous students answer. Student, predict what would be the effect on blood pressure and heart rate. Student, unpack previous students answer.

Engage Student, predict how exercising routinely would affect a person’s blood circulation. Student, build upon what previous student said. Student, defend or challenge previous students answer, explain why. Student, predict what would be the effect on blood pressure and heart rate. Student, unpack previous students answer.

Engage Student, predict what would be the consequence of someone having sickle cell anemia. Student, build upon what previous student said. Student, defend or challenge previous students answer, explain why. Student, predict what would be the effect on blood resistance. Student, verify previous students answer. Student, predict what would be the effect on blood pressure and heart rate. Student, unpack previous students answer.

Engage: Student, predict what would be the consequence of someone not drinking enough water. Student, build upon what previous student said.
