All About Me Overview of Topic Nursery Curriculum Plan Autumn 1 2018 The Prime Areas: Personal, Social and Emotional We will support your child to settle into nursery and adapt to the nursey routine. We will provide lots of opportunities for your child to explore their new surroundings and try out new activities. During circle time: we will learn each others names, talk about the nursery rules and think of how we can make new friends. Physical The children will have ample opportunities to develop their fine and gross motor skills during adult led and child initiated learning. This term we will focus on their fundamental movement techniques, such as: running, stopping, chasing, changing direction and negotiating space. We will also be encouraging children to use the toilet and wash their hands independently. Communication and Language The children will have daily phonic sessions. In nursey we teach Letters and Sounds phase 1. We will begin with Aspect 1: General sound discrimination – environmental sounds. The children will be exploring and identifying different sounds, that are all around them and singing lots of different nursery rhymes. All About Me Overview of Topic This term our topic will be ‘All About Me’. As we settle in nursery, we will be meeting new people and making new friends. The children will think about what makes them special, and will begin to find out different things about each other. The children will paint a self- portrait, using mirrors to look closely at their different features and will also paint or draw pictures of their families.

Home / School links – starting in October Your child will bring home a story book which will be changed each week. This book is for you to read to your child. Please spend some time talking about the story with your them, discussing the characters and what they think may happen next… Although this is a voluntary activity, reading to your child is very important in their learning and development. We encourage all Parents to participate in this. Keyworkers Each child will have a keyworker. They will make a short appointment with you this Half Term to introduce themselves and to discuss how your child has settled into nursery. This will be at the beginning or end of the session at a mutually convenient time. Diary Dates Friday 21st October – McMillian coffee morning This will take place in the school hall. Please come along and join us. Friday 5th October – School photos The school photographer will be in to take individual photos. Monday 8th October – Harvest festival church service The children will attend church during the morning session. Reminders: Home / School work Activity sheets will be given out on a Tuesday and brought back by the following Monday. We encourage Parents to complete the sheets with their child in a fun and encouraging way. These sheets are not marked and are a completely voluntary activity, although they do encourage home / school learning and the children love to bring in their “work”. Photographer The school photographer will be with us on Friday 30th September to take individual photos of the children. Key Workers Each child has a keyworker and they will make a short appointment with you this Half Term to discuss how they have settled in. This will be at the beginning or end of the session at a mutually convenient time. The Specific Areas Literacy The children will have a story read to them daily. They will also have the opportunity to visit the school library each week to hear a story and will bring a book home each week to share with you. Our focus stories this term will be: All kinds of people, This is me and Full, full, full of love. We will provide a variety of opportunities for your children to mark make with various mediums such as: chalks, crayons, pens, paint brushes, cornflour, gel, sand etc. Mathematics The children will be learning to recite numbers up to 10 in lots of fun ways. They will sing lots of number rhymes, complete simple puzzles, and will also begin to focus on sorting different objects into colours, size and categories. Expressive Arts and Design The children will have lots of opportunities to develop their creative and imaginary skills. They will do this through: Using musical instruments, playing in our home corner, in the small world area, with construction materials, messy play, painting self portraits, painting pictures of our families and making cakes. Understanding the World The children will be encouraged to talk about: people who are familiar to them, the things that they enjoy doing and the place that they live. In RE we will be thinking about who made the wonderful world? The children will hear ‘The Creation story’. .
