Objectives What am I learning? Why am I learning it? Reflective Writing, The Six Traits of Writing, and Literary Devices Why am I learning it? To be able to properly and vividly express my thoughts and experiences on paper How will I know I learned? I will have written a personal reflective poem, using the six traits and literary devices.

Personal & Reflection Writing Drawing from your past to evoke emotions on paper.

Individual Work “When the Sick Find Their Answer” Have your copy of “When the Sick Find Their Answer” handy. Reread the poem to yourself. Write your name at the top of the handout. List the Six Traits of Writing and explain how you see them in the poem. Identify at least four Literary Devices in the poem (refer to your prior knowledge or research if you have forgotten what literary devices are). Let’s review a few: simile, metaphor, personification, hyperbole, onomatopoeia, allusion, imagery, foreshadowing, symbolism, etc. Write the line in the poem that shows the literary devices being used. THOROUGHLY explain how is this poem reflective.

Use the remainder of the class period to: Work on your current vocabulary.com list that is due on Monday, September 19th. It will close on Monday morning. If you are still not signed up for vocabulary.com, you need to come and see me. This will be a weekly grade. Everyone should be occupied. An idle mind is Negativity’s workshop! Keep in mind: If I don’t see you working that leads me to believe that you are satisfied with your progress in this class and I should have no need to sympathize with your whining or requests when grades are due. You are responsible for you!
