Magna Carta

William the Conqueror (1066-1087) *Led the Norman invasion of England and won the Battle of Hastings in 1066 A.D. *Brought feudalism to England.

King Henry II (1154–1189) *Increased the power of the monarchy *Created common law- law that was the same throughout the whole kingdom.

King John (1199-1216) *Abused his power as king *In 1215, he was kidnapped by his Lords and forced to sign the Magna Carta.

Why is the Magna Carta important? It marked the first time in history that limits were put on a kings power. Parliament was now the center of the English gov’t
