Article display Title/Author Affiliations Published Information Abstract Reference Links Links to Full Text This is the display of an Article: View Title/Author The affiliations section tells you where the article was published and gives you contact information for the author of the article. Published information tells you exactly when the article was published online. The article abstract is a useful feature which can save you a lot of time when performing your research. It will be a summary of the article, providing you with the general top line of what is covered in the article. This allows you to decide if you want to download the entire article or move on to the next one. Reference linking allows users to expand their research found within articles in SpringerLink. By clicking on references within the articles, researchers are taken to other articles and titles providing them with expanded information for their research. If you do decide you want to view the entire article, simply locate on the right navigation bar the area that states “Full Text Available”. Below that subhead you’ll see that it lists which format and what size the article is available in for download. Some articles appear as text, and some appear as Adobe PDF files for which you’ll need to have Adobe Acrobat Reader downloaded to view the files.

PDF HTML

Journal Content Formats PDF HTML You’ll have the option to either download the entire article or view it on a page-by-page basis (which may come in handy if the file size is exceptionally large and you don’t wish to download the entire article).

3. Search Features

検索方法 “Search within the Publication”(タイトル内検索) “Basic Search” “Advanced Search” Article by citation(タイトルから論文検索) Article by text(キーワード論文検索) CrossRef Search (Googleと契約しているSTM 出版社のみ ) Publications(キーワードからタイトル検索)

Search within the Publication

Basic Search Search Box Search Results Keywords Article Links Next Page If you aren’t sure of where you would find the information you are specifically searching for, don’t worry. It’s easy to find a topic, journal or publisher using the Basic Search function inherent in SpringerLink. To utilize the Basic Search, first locate the “Search” field box located next to the SpringerLink logo on the top of the homepage. In this field box, simply type in the phrase or word that you are interested in searching for. Next to the field box, there is a drop down menu that allows you to refine your search. Decide which refinement you think will yield the most results for the word or phrase you’ve entered, and click “GO”. Let’s try a Basic Search so that you can see how easy and fast the results are returned to you by SpringerLink. In the Search field box, let’s enter the word “Tsunami” and in the drop down box, let’s search by “Article”. As soon as we click on “GO” we are brought to a page that lists the relevant articles that include the word “Tsunami” in it. As you can see, it shows each listing with a complete background on the article, publisher, date and an excerpt from the article so you can make the decision whether this is an article that you’d like to review. Let’s say that you want to refine your search even more. You want to limit the returns you get and focus on precisely what you need. To utilize the Advanced Search function, locate the box that states “Advanced Search” to the right of the Basic Search fields. Click on “Advanced Search” and you will be brought to a page that allows you to refine your search to a much more detailed degree.

Advanced Search Advanced Buttons Tabs On the Advanced Search page, you will see a data box in the center that has multiple tabs across the top. These tabs allow you to Advance Search using a multitude of refinements. These search tabs include: Articles by Citation, Articles by Text, Cross Reference Search and Publications.

Advanced Search: Articles by Citation Let’s look at a search using “Articles By Citations”. On this tab, you can refine your search by using any of the following: Simply enter the amount of information that you know and click “GO”. Remember, the more information you key in, the more refined the search will become.

Advanced Search: Articles by Text All Words: AND検索 Any Words: OR検索 Exact Phrase: 完全一致検索 Boolean Search: 論理演算検索 Show Advanced Options: ・刊行年 ・掲載誌名 指定可 Moving across the tab sections, the next tab is “Articles by Text”. Use this tab when you want to refine your search using key words. For instance, if we were keying in “Tsunami” we could refine it using the following options: Full-Text Abstract Author Title Viewable articles only These refinements will help us yield a return of precisely the articles we are interested in.

Advanced Search: CrossRef Search The next tab is quite unique. SpringerLink allows you to refine your search by Cross Referencing against other articles available online. Through a relationship with Google, you can enter in a search word or phrase in the Search field and receive a return of articles that are appropriate for your Search.

Advanced Search: Publication 上のBasic SearchでPublicationsを選んだ場合と全く同じ機能 All Words: AND検索 Any Words: OR検索 Exact Phrase: 完全一致検索 Boolean Search: 論理演算検索 The last Advanced Search tab allows you to refine your search for Publications. This search will allow you to narrow down your list to see specific publications that you want to review that contain your search query within their volumes.

4. Setting up Favorites 頻繁に利用するジャーナル へのショートカット Each of you will probably be researching different journals, information, etc. You each have your own preferences, favorite authors and journals. To make it easy for you, and to cut down on the amount of time you need to spend searching on SpringerLink, you can take advantage of the “Favorites” feature. The “Favorites” feature is easy to set up and keeps your favorite journals top of mind when you log on and throughout your time on the site. Please note: You will have to have registered on your campus for a Username and Password to take advantage of the “Favorites” feature.

Favoritesをクリック To set up your Favorites, first locate the word “Favorites” on the top navigation bar. It is the third word from the left. Click on the word “Favorite” and you’ll notice the screen changes to a list of all of the SpringerLink journals available online.

Favorites Select Favorite Journals “Apply Changes” All SpringerLink Next to each journal’s name, you’ll notice an empty check off box. Simply search through the journals you want listed as your favorites and populate the check box by clicking on it. You can select as many or as few journals as you would like. Keep in mind though, that these are meant to be your favorites. [You will probably not want to go overboard and click off 100 journals]. Click the few you like to reference continually so they’re easily accessible for you. SpringerLink recommends having 5-10 favorites. Once you’ve selected your favorite journals, click on the “Apply Changes” box on the right side of your page. This will automatically save your selections.

Favorites ログイン時 トップページに Favorites登録した タイトルが表示されます ログイン時 トップページに Favorites登録した タイトルが表示されます Now, each time you log on or return to the home page, you’ll see your favorite journals listed in the bold print down the right side of the page. Simply click on one of the journals you’ve selected and you’ll be brought right to that journal’s site. Once there, you can search through the volumes that are referenced and available online for that journal. As we’ve touched on already, as you navigate through the site, you can always add a journal to your Favorites list by clicking on the “Favorites” button on the journal’s main page. Click “Add” and this journal will now appear as one of your favorites

Favorites登録から タイトルを削除したい場合 チェックマークを外す “Apply Changes” To remove a journal from your Favorites list, click on “Favorites” from the top navigation bar, then un-populate the check box by clicking it to remove the check mark. Once completed, click on the “Apply Changes” box in the right navigation bar and your favorites list has been updated.

5. Setting up Alerts

Creating Alerts Alert Table of Contents Alert Keyword Alert タイトル登録によるアラート Keyword Alert A great feature of SpringerLink is the ability to have the site do the “research” for you. With everything that you have going on, it’s not easy to always keep on top of the most recent articles that are published. To help you, SpringerLink allows you to create an automatic “Alert”. These Alerts automatically notify you whenever your favorite publications are updated. You can receive notification either by email or whenever you log on to SpringerLink. To begin creating Alerts, locate the word “Alert” on the top navigation bar. It is the fourth word from the right.

Creating Alerts- Table of Contents Alert Publications Subject Disable All Properties Update Using the Table of Content Alert, you can refine your Alert to flag only journals in your Favorites list, or select journals which are of interest to you. Click on the “Properties” button and it will allow you to select notification via log in or email.

Retrieving, Modifying and Deleting Alerts Notify at Login →ログインした時に トップページに表示 Notify by Email SpringerLink gives you the option to receive your alerts in 2 ways. You can be notified of any new alerts upon login of the SpringerLink’s website. Or you have the option of receiving new alerts through your personal email account. You have the added benefit of receiving alerts via both methods by simply clicking on the checkbox next to both options.

Selecting the second tab to the right, “Properties”, you can set your notification methods.
