Youth mental health worker Welcome Everyone! TIPS BECOMING A YOUTH MENTAL WORKER Today’s topic of discussion is the profession of Youth Mental Health Worker. This presentation will discuss tips on becoming a Youth Mental Health Worker.

The overview is that first we will have introductions. Then we will discuss why anyone would want to become a youth mental health worker. We will also discuss the education requirements, the money that is involved, tips for breaking into the field and practice sessions with clients that will help you to start working!

Introductions As we get to know each other… What are your questions about the youth mental health field? What do you want to get out of this workshop? What is a youth mental health worker? A youth mental health worker works with young people who have mental health problems either developed through an abusive childhood or biologically developed. Sometimes a youth mental worker could work in a non-profit organization, in a courthouse working with youth criminal offenders, as well as in a hospital. What do you want to get out of this workshop?

Education Requirements Let’s discuss the education requirements College University Questions? The education requirements for a youth mental health worker usually involve studying in that field for at least three years at the college level, or studying in that field at university. Some youth mental health workers also have bachelor’s of social work degrees as well as master’s of social work degrees.

Ethical considerations What are some of the ethical considerations that can or could come up when you are working as a youth mental health worker? There are many ethical considerations that come up with being a youth mental worker. As a youth mental health worker works closely with their client, they must always ensure that they maintain a good professional distance from their clients.

Money INVOLVED You can make approximately $50,000.00 USD per year (Payscale.com, 2016) as a youth mental health worker You would require a social work degree either at the bachelor’s or master’s level or at least three years of college in a subject area that is related The average earnings of a youth mental health worker in America are approximately $50,000.00 per year. To start off with the beginning wage, most youth mental health workers earn about $30,000.00 per year and then it increases to the median of 50K. This profession caps at about 50K and many youth mental health workers sometimes go onto to work in other fields due sometimes to burnout.
