Civic Engagement Presentation 2015
Girls As Techies The goal of the program was to give support to underserved and underrepresented girls through digital advocacy and empowerment incorporating technology in arts learning activities. With mentorship and knowledge of information the program strives to overcome economic barriers, employment disparities, preconceived technology stigmatism and gender stereotypes.
According to Girl Scout STEM report, we know that only 57% of women make up the nation’s workforce. 20% of that graduated from college in the field of computer science, physics and engineering however, only 11% remain in the field of engineering. The report also found that a lot of girls start identifying their interest in the early ages. We see that more and more women are turning away from STEM therefore we must start at the beginning.
