Presentation transcript:

Mrs. Hake’s Friday, Jan.11th edition CLASSROOM 2018-2019 news Sneak Peak Week in Review: at Next Week This week was all about Snowmen! In our art center we painted snow scenes. We also loved playing with real snow in our science center. We read tons of snowman books this week aloud and in our guided reading groups. We read the book “Snowballs” and sequenced the life of a snowman, we learned the phases of matter and continued our teen number studies. Theme of the Week: Martin Luther King Jr. Vowel friends: o and a say “o’ like in boat Sci/Social Studies: MLK The importance of treating everyone fairly Math: Numbers Rainbow word: as/not PB& J Vowel friends We will meet our first Stevenson vowel friends this week: “oa” sounds like “O”. These are peanut butter and jelly words. The “o” is the crunchy peanut butter and makes the sound, the “a” is the smooth jelly and it doesn’t make a sound, just gently kicks “o” to say his name. Valentine cards are great way to practice name writing! Use this experience to practice writing first or first and last names. HOWEVER, PLEASE DO NOT ADDRESS VALENTINE CARDS TO A SPECIFIC STUDENT, AS CARDS WILL BE PASSED OUT DOWN A LINE IN ORDER TO TAKE LESS TIME AWAY FROM OUR FUN PARTY! Again, please have children only sign their own name. Also, it is easiest to pass out cards that are unisex. Valentine bags will be made at school so there is no need to send one in. THANK YOU for helping make this experience FUN and EDUCATIONAL! There are 21 students in your child’s class. Practice writing numbers and words in the snow Create your own wordless books –discuss the sequence of a plot Watch the phases of matter- make ice, boil water to see the steam, etc. Make a snowman and create your own sequencing activity with pictures or drawings Have a scavenger hunt using positions words Count to 100 by ones, fives, and tens Find things that rhyme with snow, hat, cold, etc. Keep reading! Try discussing story elements: setting, plot, character, and conclusion. Rainbow WORDS Trace, cut, practice: out as not
