Understanding the IA Criteria I’m doing an investigation for the IA … … what do I put in my report? … how is it marked?

Let’s break it down – there are 3 parts \ 2 \3 aspects marks checklists 1

Let’s break it down – there are 3 parts Depending on band you attained in each aspect you will be awarded a mark for the criteria. \ 2 \3 The checklist helps you to know how well did you do against each aspect 1 The checklist tells you what needs to be in your report* *The checklist is designed to fit a common approach. Some checks may not be valid for investigations taking an unusual approach.

Let’s break it down – there are 3 parts 2 It’s likely that the top band will be awarded 1 Most checks completed? Maybe just one minor mistake or omission? *The checklist is designed to fit a common approach. Some checks may not be valid for investigations taking an unusual approach.

Let’s break it down – there are 3 parts 2 The band you are awarded depends on: how many checks are missed How many minor mistakes are made How important the major mistakes are 1 Some checks completed? A few minor, or maybe a major mistake or two?

Let’s break it down – there are 3 parts Attained the same band in each aspect? 2 3 Then you should receive the top mark in that band for the criteria

Let’s break it down – there are 3 parts 1 However if you achieve a different mark in each band.... You will get the best fit grade

Let’s break it down – there are 3 parts n.b. the best-fit approach means that sometimes a mark maybe adjusted up or down depending on the particular strength or weakness of a given aspect. 1

The overall total counts as 20% of your final grade 4 Marks for each criteria are added together 1 3 4 4 2 14 14 The overall total counts as 20% of your final grade

IMPORTANT Use the IA template document (in the IA guide and on my website) to structure the sections of your IA. It includes tips on how to lay out each section. For example it suggest where tables should be used to present information clearly.

IA Examples Read through example 9 and 10. Use the marking criteria to decide what score you think each one should get and why (15 mins) https://ibpublishing.ibo.org/server2/rest/app/tsm.xql?doc=d_4_biolo_tsm_1408_1_e&part=8&chapter=1
