NSF PFI-AIR July 2012-June 2014 PI: Naphtali Rishe Co-PI: Kalai Mathee, FIU College of Medicine Senior Investigators: Iyengar, Marty, Barreto, Chen, Clarke, He, Khizroev, Li, Lisetti, Liu, Narasimhan, Zhao $800,000 from NSF, to be matched $800,000 from industry, Florida Research Consortium, and Enterprise Development Corporation

NSF PFI-AIR Builds and sustains a culture of innovation Joins academic research & education with entrepreneurship Facilitates access to industry knowledge, interests, experience and connections Leverages core research initiatives and expertise Designs and develops innovative solutions Helps pipeline cutting-edge technologies to commercialization Provides R&D resources for commercial innovation

NSF PFI-AIR Ecosystem for development and transfer of technology: – Technologists – Innovators – Industrialists – Entrepreneurs – Start-up Pioneers – Faculty – Students Provides resources, mentors, industry advisors

First Industrial Investor: ALTA Systems Invested $300K in the Ecosystem in October 2012 Stakeholders, including emergency managers needing immediate very high-resolution imagery, pre and post disasters, will access ultra-high-resolution aerial imagery, mashed-up with thousands of other TerraFly datasets. ALTA is an Autonomous Lighter Than Air imaging/sensing platform, powered by natural forces and information instead of machines. The system operates below cloud ceilings, transmitting tree-top, oblique, geo-referenced images at low angles, from low altitudes, and at low cost, making massive balloon deployment feasible.
