Settlement Pattern The arrangement of where people live and the factors that influence this arrangement

Population Distribution The pattern of where people live in a region or even in the entire country. 1) Dispersed: In areas that have a strong agricultural base – spread out on the farms in the region.

2) Concentrated: In areas where resources – and the economic opportunities and population that result – are focused on small area. Ex. Gold Mine

3) Linear: Special example of concentrated settlement pattern in areas where the most important economic reason for settlement exist in the lines (Ex. Along highways)

Population Density The population divided by area or the calculation of the number of people who live in each square kilometre of land. Below, each area has the same population density, but different population distribution.
