Acts 20:1-6 GREECE … (Achaia) Paul wrote Romans (about 57 AD) from Corinth. Romans 16:23; cf.1 Corinthians 1:14; 2 Timothy 4:20 Paul’s acquaintances and companions while in Corinth. Phoebe, servant of the church in nearby Cenchreae. Romans 16:1-2 Timothy, Lucius, Jason, and Sosipater, Paul’s countrymen. Romans16:21 Tertius, writer for Paul. Romans 16:22 Gaius, host of Paul and the church. Romans 16:23 Erastus, treasurer of the city, and Quartus, a brother. Romans 16:23

Acts 20:1-6 MACEDONIA … Paul’s plan to sail straight to Syria was spoiled by a plot against him. Acts 20:3 Paul decided to go through Macedonia to Asia. Acts 20:3 Seven travelling companions went on to wait for Paul at Troas. Acts 20:4-5 (To be discussed later.)

Acts 20:1-6 MACEDONIA … At Philippi, Luke evidently joins Paul. Acts 20:5 (note the use of "we") We last read of Luke with Paul at Philippi on the second journey. Acts 16:11-16 Paul and Luke sailed from Philippi after the Days of Unleavened Bread (Passover). Acts 20:6 In five days, they arrived at Troas where they tarried seven days. Acts 20:6 There they rejoined their other traveling companions Acts 20:4

Acts 20:1-6 PAUL’S TRAVELING COMPANIONS: Sopater of Beroea. A member of the church in Beroea. Acts 20:4; cf. Acts 17:10-15 One of those who were more noble-minded? Acts 17:11 Possibly the same man as Sosipater. Romans 16:21

Acts 20:1-6 PAUL’S TRAVELING COMPANIONS: Aristarchus of Thessalonica A member of the church in Thessalonica. Acts 20:4; cf. Acts 17:1-4; 1 Thessalonians 1:1; 2 Thessalonians 1:1 Who was taken into the theater in the Diana incident at Ephesus. Acts 19:29 Travelled with Paul and Luke to Rome. Acts 27:2 Described as a "fellow prisoner" with Paul in Rome. Colossians 4:10 Described also as a "fellow laborer" with Paul in Rome. Philemon 24

Acts 20:1-6 PAUL’S TRAVELING COMPANIONS: Gaius of Derbe A member of the church in Derbe. Acts 20:4; cf. Acts 14:20-21 Other men named Gaius in the scriptures. Gaius of Macedonia, who with Aristarchus were taken into the theater at Ephesus. Acts 19:29 Gaius of Corinth, Paul’s convert and host of the church. 1 Corinthians 1:14; Romans 16:23 Gaius the beloved recipient of John’s 3rd epistle. 3 John 1

Acts 20:1-6 PAUL’S TRAVELING COMPANIONS: Timothy of Lystra The young disciple at Lystra personally selected by Paul. Acts 16:1-4 Fulfilled special and often dangerous missions for Paul. Acts 17:13-14; 1 Thessalonians 3:1-8; Acts 19:22; 1 Corinthians 4:17; Philippians 2:19; 1Timothy 1:3-4,18-19 A true fellow-laborer in the gospel, none other like minded as Paul. Philippians 2:19-22 Co-authored with Paul in writing six epistles. 2 Corinthians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 and 2 Thessalonians, and Philemon.

Acts 20:1-6 PAUL’S TRAVELING COMPANIONS: Timothy of Lystra Recipient of two epistles from Paul. 1 Timothy and 2 Timothy As Paul faced death, he asked Timothy to come (which involved risk). 2 Timothy 4:9 Timothy himself was imprisoned at some point, but later released. Hebrews 13:23

Acts 20:1-6 PAUL’S TRAVELING COMPANIONS: Tychicus of Asia A Christian from Asia Minor (western Turkey). Acts 20:4 Sent with the letter to the Ephesians, a beloved brother and faithful minister. Ephesians 6:21 Carried the letter to the Colossians, together with Onesimus. Colossians 4:7-9 Sent to Ephesus on another occasion. 2 Timothy 4:12 And possibly to Crete on another occasion. Titus 3:12 Tradition holds that he died a martyr. Holman Bible Dictionary

Acts 20:1-6 PAUL’S TRAVELING COMPANIONS: Trophimus of Asia A Christian from Asia Minor (western Turkey). Acts 20:4 From Ephesus, falsely accused as taken by Paul into the temple. Acts 21:29 Left sick in Miletus toward the end of Paul’s life. 2 Timothy 4:20

Acts 20:1-6 PAUL’S TRAVELING COMPANIONS: Luke of Philippi The author of the gospel of Luke and Acts. Luke 1:1-4; Acts 1:1-3 Joined Paul on his second journey at Troas. Acts 16:11 Remained at Philippi when Paul when on to Thessalonica. Acts 16:15; 17:1 Rejoins Paul as he passed through Philippi on his third journey. Acts 20:5-6 From the use of personal pronouns ("we," "us"), we learn that Luke accompanied Paul from this point forward until Paul’s arrival in Rome. Acts 28:16
