When Should I Start Stressing? Programs without Accreditation (beyond WASC): Program Review every seven years Programs with Accreditation: Program Review every ten years Eligible for “Expedited Program Review” Check with the Director of Program Review and Assessment Hi Sharlene!
What is the Process? The Self-Study Year The Program Review Year Program Review Committee Evaluation External Reviewer Evaluation Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with University about actions to take Subsequent Years Annual Reports on progress toward fulfilling MOU
What is the Chair’s Role? Coordinate the Self Study (and probably write most of it…) Delegate! Assessment Tables and Reports Institutional Research Data Communicate with University, College, Department, and PARC Host External Reviewers Negotiate Helpful and Actionable MOU with University
A Few Tips Your department is not on trial, so don’t be defensive Take advantage of opportunities to learn from External Reviewers Do the Assessment section and Data Tables first, then create narratives around them Don’t freak out when IR Data don’t match your department’s data Program Review Reports always conclude with Recommendations Think about how your Self Study will inform those recommendations “Improve assessment methods” is always a recommendation, so stay calm
