Informative/Expository Essay

Writing an Informative or Expository Essay You must determine what the prompt is asking you to do. Read and collect evidence to support your ideas. Plan for your essay The more you plan, the easier it will be to write Write your essay Read and revise You will have 120 minutes for your essay. That is more than enough time to do all this!

Introduction Hook Attention grabber First sentence of the introduction Thesis Statement The sentence that contains the central idea or ideas that you will be writing about Body Paragraph One Reason/Idea/Support for Thesis Evidence Must be relevant Must come from your passage set – use all passages for evidence Must be cited Elaboration Explain your evidence Brings clarity to your ideas Show connection between evidence and thesis Body Paragraph Two Conclusion Summary of ideas No new information, do not repeat everything that is in your introduction
