General Characteristics: * Tarsi 5-segmented. Cerci absent. Head prognathous with mandibulate mouthparts. * Complete metamorphosis. * Forewings and hind wings similar in size and shape.

* Typically four membranous wings (pigmented or clear), forewings and hind wings about the same size. * Antennae thread like (filiform), with 14 or more segments, often half of body length or longer. * Tarsi with five segments.
