Newsletter PARENTS MEETING Drop off and collection Family Learning St Augustine’s CE (VA) J&I School Newsletter Tel: 01422 360615 admin@st-augustines.calderdale.sch.uk www.st-augustines.calderdale.sch.uk Friday, 13th April 2018 PARENTS MEETING We are holding a parents meeting on Tuesday 17th April 9am-10am to update on the School’s progress post Ofsted. Please try and attend if at all possible as we would really like to share our work with you. Thank you Drop off and collection Please can all parents ensure they stay with their children in the playground until the bell sounds for the start of school. And also note children need to be collected at 3.20pm. Thank you Family Learning Dear Parents. The following family learning sessions are booked to take place next month. Please enquire with Mrs Rasheed if you would like more information. 2nd May – Healthy Snacks 9th May – Eid cards and decorations. Attendance Please be aware children are NOT entitled to holidays in term time. Family holidays should be taken during the school holiday periods. Fines of £120 per parent/carer and per child reduced to £60 per parent/carer and per child if paid within 21 days, may be issued where unauthorised leave has been taken during term time. Absences due to holidays abroad 298 sessions since January 2018 Long periods of absence can impact a child’s education dramatically. UNIFORM We seem to have an increasing number of children misplacing their uniform. It would be incredibly helpful if all uniform could be marked up with name tags so we can identify missing items and return them to the children. There are a number of stores and websites that offer both iron on and sew in name tags please feel free to ask for any shopping suggestions. How can you Help? Could you give up some of your time and volunteer to: Listen to children read Help out in a class Bake or cook with the children Or do you have another skill you could share with us?

Homework Reminder Don’t forget your child will have homework everyday, please help us to help them reach their highest potential by making sure they so their homework. Thank you for your support Dates for your Diary: 3rd May – Teacher Training Day school is closed 7th May – Bank Holiday 14-17th May – SATS 25th May – Non Uniform Day School Closed for Half Term 11th June – School re-opens 9/10th July – Parents Evening 27th July – Non Uniform Day School closes for the Summer The Power of Reading Reading is a really good way that you can help your child’s learning at home. Children who read everyday, not only read well and understand what they have read, they can achieve and become more confident in many other areas of the curriculum. Children who can read well are far more likely to achieve and do well later in life. Families, please encourage your child to read home/school reading book each day and support this reading by commenting in their reading record.. Thank you for your continued support. Has your child been published? We are proud of the children here at St Augustine’s and publish their work regularly on Pobble. Why not log on and have a look to see if your child’s work has been published: https://www.pobble.com/ We have now received a new delivery of school sweatshirts. These are from a new supplier and we are trialling a different blend of materials. These will be priced at £7.95 each for all sizes except Small Adult which is £8.95. Please help us to get your Year 6 children ready for the SAT’s in May by ensuring they get to school on time and are present each day. Time off during this important period will only hinder their progression. Thank you for your continued support. Are you receiving texts from us? Please make sure we have your up-to-date mobile phone number. Not only do we need it to contact you in an emergency, we send lots of information and reminders to our main contact by text. Don’t forget to complete your Parent/Governor nomination forms and get them back to the school office by Wednesday 18th April. Be a part of choosing who represents St Augustines.
